Load Testing Underhung Hoists - ASME B30 or ANSI Z540?

What is the difference in application of ASME B30 compared to ANSI Z540.1?

ANSI Z540.1 is a standard for the calibration of testing equipment. ASME B30.16 and B30.17 should ultimately be used to provide guidance relative to inspection and load testing of underhung hoists and cranes and monorails with an underhung trolley or bridge. The following statement is a description of the scope and lineage of ANSI Z540.1 from the NCSL website:

Withdrawn as an active standard (July 2007) and superseded by ANS/ISO/IEC 17025:2005 for part 1 and ANSI/NCSL Z540.3-2006 for part 2. This standard provides a mechanism for promoting confidence in calibration laboratories and measuring and test equipment when it can be shown that they are operated in compliance with its requirements. The intent of this Standard is that laboratories meeting its requirements comply, for calibration activities, with the relevant requirements of the ANSI/ASQC Q90 series of standards, including those of the model described in ANSI/ASQC Q92 when they are acting as suppliers producing calibration results. This Standard includes the requirements relevant to calibration laboratories of ISO/IEC Guide 25 (1990) and requirements relevant to the quality assurance of measuring and test equipment derived from MI-Std 45662A.

In summary, the testing equipment that is used to conduct the load test may be calibrated and in compliance with ANSI Z540.1.  That testing equipment would then be used to perform the load test on the crane according to ASME B30.16 and B30.17 requirements.
