Certification Overview
The NCCCO Lift Director Task Force that developed the Lift Director certification program was made up of experts from all aspects of the crane industry from management, crane users, trainers, and safety supervisors. Together, these professionals represent thousands of hours of crane-related experience which guide the Lift Director Certification program. These expert volunteers Invested their time and expertise with the primary goal of improving the quality of lift direction and promote additional training among lift directors.
CCO Lift Director certification is available for the following designations:
- Lift Director—Mobile Cranes (MLD)
- Lift Director—Tower Cranes (TLD)
Lift director certification requirements include the following pre-requisites that are outlined by the following learning path diagram.
Elevate Your Role with Lift Director Expertise
The Lift Director & Critical Lift Planning course is designed for professionals responsible under OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1400, ASME P30.1, and ASME B30.5 lift planning standards. Over three days, participants receive both theoretical and hands-on instruction, including the opportunity to create real-world lift plans and work through challenging scenarios. As always, ITI's expert instructors are guiding learners each step of the way, answering specific questions, scenarios, and giving direct feedback as participants learn.

- Crane operators looking to expand their responsibilities
- Safety managers or engineers involved in lift coordination
Participants should be familiar with crane operation principles, load charts, and basic rigging practices. Prior field experience is helpful but not mandatory.

- Roles and responsibilities as defined by OSHA and ASME
- Load chart interpretation and crane selection processes
- Planning lifts that are classified as critical, including tandem and complex scenarios
