Course Overview
Pre-requisite: Per CMAA 78-2.2.1, "A crane inspector should have a minimum of 2,000 hours of relevant work experience and training related to maintaining, inspecting, service, repairing and modifying cranes." If you do not meet this hour requirement yet, please do not register for this course. Instead, you may take the Overhead Crane Inspector course which does not issue a certification.
This extensive course will cover the inspection of major aspects of overhead cranes including:

- Terminology and General Requirements
- Runways and Wheels
- Chain Hoists (Electric and Manual)
- Lever Tools
- Crane Structure
- Cabs and Platforms
- Controls
- Gears and Couplings
- Wire Ropes, Sheaves, and Chains
- Electrical Systems
You will examine the overhead crane inspection standards and gain the ability to look up any inspection criteria. You will gain competence in evaluating deficiencies and locating safety related items, and will acquire skills to interpret federal OSHA regulations, industry standards including ASME B30.2, ASME B30.16, ASME B30.17, ASME B30.21, CMAA Spec 70, 74, and 78, and crane and hoist manufacturer specifications.
Practical Evaluation
A certification will be issued upon successful completion of the written exam and practical assessment. The practical assessment is hosted in the course in a simulated environment which allows the learner to put their newly acquired skills and knowledge to use by virtually inspecting an overhead crane.
Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of this online course, a certificate of completion will be available for download and printing.
