Hydra-Slide and ITI Partner to Expand Load Moving Solutions

Industrial Training International (iti.com), a world leader in crane, rigging and lifting educational services, is proud to announce a new partnership with Hydra-Slide Ltd., designer and supplier of the signature Hydra-Slide hydraulic skidding systems.  The collaboration Hydra-Slide Logowill result in a brand new module to the world-renowned Master Rigger Course, featuring the Hydra-Slide LP-400 Low Profile Skid System.  ITI’s Master Rigger Course is the premier advanced rigging applications training program in the industry and has been in-demand for nearly 30 years.  The Master Rigging Program fills the gap for those who seek the next level of information, knowledge and innovation in the rigging world and the addition of the Hydra-Slide Module will push the envelope even further.

Why Hydra-Slide?

Hydra-Slide Hydraulic Skidding Systems provide superior load moving capabilities for moving, loading and unloading all types of heavy cargo including transformers, generators, compressors, machinery and more. Both the HT (Heavy-Track), and LP (Low Profile), skid systems exemplify the company motto – Strong. Safe. Simple.

The HT model comes in 300 and 500 ton capacities (load charts: 300-ton and 500-ton), and the LP model is available in 150 and 400 ton capacities.

In February 2014, representatives from Hydra-Slide and ITI had the privilege of seeing the HT and LP systems in action, on location in Alberta.

Transformer - Hydra-Slide

First, the teams witnessed the HT-300 Skid System in Pincher Creek, Alberta load a 250 ton transformer from a railcar on to a Mammoet Scheuerle Trailer. The move was executed by a crew from Donald Rigging, and offered an excellent look into the versatility of Hydra-Slide Skidding Systems. Although the crew had to brave -30 degree (C) temperatures, intermittent snow showers, and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour, the elements had little to no effect on the HT System.

The demonstration of the LP-400 Skid System took place in the ITI Edmonton Training Centre at the Enform Campus in Nisku, Alberta. In the training centre skills area, the teams from Hydra-Slide and ITI assembled and tested the LP System by skidding a five ton load nest. Although the five ton load was just over 1% of the system’s capacity, the exercise offered plenty of insight into the system's ease of use, convenience and overall safety of the LP System. After familiarizing themselves with the system, the teams assembled the skid track by hand in less than 15 minutes, jacked and blocked the load, lowered the load onto the skid tracks, then got to sit back and watch the module slide along the track.

Hydra-Slide founder and President, Don Mahnke, P. Eng., has been an industry thought-leader for decades. Mr. Mahnke co-founded and operated ETARCO (Engineered Transport & Rigging Company) in Ontario, in 1991. His company was acquired by Mammoet in 2000. He served Mammoet as a Senior Vice President in Canada until his retirement in 2005.
