NCCCO Certification Training

ITI offers preparatory courses for students seeking nationally accredited certification. In addition, our instructors are accredited practical examiners and are able to perform practical exams at our customers' locations as well as our training centers. ITI offers preparatory courses and exams for signaling, rigging, and crane operations.

Industrial Training International endorses the national certification program offered by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), and provides training to prepare candidates for NCCCO examinations.

To assist crane operators that need to comply with the newly revised OSHA 1926.1400 regulations, which requires crane operators working in construction or performing construction-related activities to be certified through a nationally accredited agency, ITI offers an online Articulating Boom Crane Operator Certification Test Prep Course. This e-learning program is designed to prepare participants to take the general and crane-specific exams for national accredited agencies.

Instructor-Led Prep Options

The Tower Crane Certification program provides training to prepare candidates for CCO examinations. Training Center courses prepare the student for tower crane, signal person and rigger written and practical examination.

Certification requirements include - written examination, practical examination, physical requirements, and a recertification requirement. All CCO written examinations are in multiple-choice format. The Tower Crane, Signal Person and Rigger programs use a single written exam with a practical exam for certification.

2 Days | A Certified Rigger Level I can perform simple, repetitive rigging tasks when the load weight, center of gravity, rigging, and rigging configuration are provided or known by the rigger through experience or knowledge of: rigging inspection, rigging identification, hitch configurations and capacities, basic knots, hazard recognition, signaling operations, and use of various types of rigging equipment and their applications.

Lift Director Certification

The NCCCO Lift Director Task Force that developed the Lift Director certification program was made up of experts from all aspects of the crane industry—management, crane users, trainers, and safety supervisors—who together represent many thousands of hours of crane-related experience. These volunteers gave freely of their time and expertise with the primary goal of improving the quality of lift direction and promote additional training among lift directors.

CCO Lift Director certification is available for the following designations:

  • Lift Director—Mobile Cranes (MLD)
  • Lift Director—Tower Cranes (TLD)

Requirements for certification include the following:

  • Be at least 18 years of age 
  • Meet experience requirements (All Crane Inspector candidates must submit a completed Experience Form and relevant documentation for review at least two weeks prior to submitting their exam Candidate Applications.)
  • Pass Written Examinations 
  • Comply with NCCCO’s Substance Abuse Policy 
  • Comply with NCCCO’s Code of Ethics

What is OSHA 1926.1400?

This standard applies to power-operated equipment, when used in construction, that can hoist, lower and horizontally move a suspended load. Such equipment includes, but is not limited to: Articulating cranes (such as knuckle-boom cranes); crawler cranes; floating cranes; cranes on barges; locomotive cranes; mobile cranes (such as wheel-mounted, rough-terrain, all-terrain, commercial truck-mounted, and boom truck cranes); multi-purpose machines when configured to hoist and lower (by means of a winch or hook) and horizontally move a suspended load; industrial cranes (such as carry-deck cranes); dedicated pile drivers; service/mechanic trucks with a hoisting device; a crane on a monorail; tower cranes (such as a fixed jib, i.e., "hammerhead boom"), luffing boom and self-erecting); pedestal cranes; portal cranes; overhead and gantry cranes; straddle cranes; sideboom cranes; derricks; and variations of such equipment. However, items listed in paragraph (c) of this section are excluded from the scope of this standard.
