The NCCCO Rigger Level II Prep ILT course is crafted to help experienced riggers advance their skills and confidently prepare for the Level II practical exam. Through structured instruction and hands-on practice, you’ll refine your approach to technical rigging scenarios.

In addition to knowing and demonstrating Rigger Level I knowledge and skills, a Certified Rigger Level II can select rigging components and procedures based on rigging capacity. A Level II Rigger can perform the following rigging tasks unsupervised:

  • Estimate load weight and center of gravity
  • Identify lift points
  • Determine and select rigging based on loading
  • Perform pre-use inspection of rigging and lift points
  • Identify and attach rigging with knowledge of hitch configurations and load angle factors, rigging capacities, and load integrity
  • Understand load dynamics and associated hazards

Core Skill Areas

  • Selecting and inspecting complex rigging hardware, including basket and bridle hitches.
  • Performing certified tandem and multi-leg lift configurations.
  • Evaluating load weight, angles, and center of gravity.
  • Coordinating lift control with taglines, communication protocols, signaling, and crew alignment.

Participants receive real-time feedback during hands-on labs, case studies, and evaluation simulations. Instructors highlight common errors and provide strategies to correct technique and judgment under field conditions.

Rigging Certification Written Exam Outline


A Certified Rigger Level II can select rigging components and procedures based on rigging capacity. A Rigger Level II can perform the following rigging tasks unsupervised:

  • Load weight and center of gravity estimation 
  • Lift point identification 
  • Rigging selection
  • Pre-use inspection
  • Rigging identification
  • Hitch configurations
  • Load angle factors
  • Rigging capacities
  • Load integrity
  • Understanding of load dynamics and associated hazards
  • Knowledge of hoisting equipment: 
    • Winches
    • Jacks
    • Industrial rollers
    • Other load handling equipment

Who Should Attend

Ideal candidates include riggers with active Level I certification seeking professional advancement. The course also supports supervisors and safety personnel who manage critical lifts and need deeper competency in complex rigging operations.

PPE Information

The following PPE is required for all hands-on sessions at ITI Training Centers:

  • OSHA-approved hard hat*
  • Eye protection*
  • Long pants with no holes or tears
  • Low-heeled work boots or work shoes
  • Full-fingered work gloves*
  • OSHA-approved safety vest*

*ITI Training Centers will make these PPE items available for all enrolled students. Students are responsible for their own appropriate garments and footwear.
