When I was asked to be a subject matter expert for ITI's new Fundamentals of Rigging Engineering program I was both intrigued and honored. I had not been aware of any such training being available before this comprehensive educational program was started. The training program was a fantastic idea, and it was also vitally needed in the lifting and handling industry. Until ITI started this program there was really no place to go for unified and complete engineering training in cranes and rigging.

ITI's Fundamentals or Rigging Engineering provides the student an incredible foundation with which to properly figure out (or engineer), how to safely and effectively move loads with cranes and rigging methods. A quick review of the required courses in this program shows just how complete and extensive this engineering training is. The student learns all about statics, dynamics, mechanical advantage, loads and forces, crane configurations, crane selection, crane applications, rigging equipment and its use, alternatives to cranes, and lift planning. The instructors for the program are world class leaders in the field of rigging and the engineering associated with making sure loads are rigged and lifted safely.

This program fills a huge hole in the lifting and handling industry, and I am very glad to have made a small contribution to this excellent engineering training.
