Unlocking Success with Just-in-Time Learning: A Guide to Efficient Skill Acquisition for Crane & Rigging Professionals

Just-in-time Learning is a method of training, where employees are provided with targeted training that addresses a specific task they are about to perform. In these instances, the impending task provides a motivation for engagement in the instruction, as well as a means of immediately putting into practice what has just been learned.

ITI-Bull-Rigging-Graphic01-webJust-in-time Learning may be a popular buzzword in training and teaching circles, but it is by no means a new concept. Long before the term was created, workers who didn’t know how to do a vital task would halt operations to ask a knowledgeable co-worker for guidance, consult a procedure manual or manufacturer information, or perhaps learn the hard way via some good old-fashioned trial and error (never a good idea with cranes and rigging!).

ITI has been using the principles of just-in-time training for decades within our Training Centers and at client site locations, as our instructors teach about a specific topic, and then immediately provide engaging opportunities to put the new knowledge into use.

During day-to-day operations, where do your employees go when they need specialized training, and they need it right now?

The ITI Learning Hub provides powerful options for just-in-time learning, through our expansive library of on-demand courses & videos, provided manufacturer and product training, and by giving employers the ability to create their own training content.

ITI offers a robust library of ready-to-view courses. This includes our full-length courses like Advanced Rigging, Overhead Crane Operator, and Signaling for Mobile and Overhead Cranes. But we also have a growing library of courses that cover narrow topics like Mobile Crane Setup Basics, Severe Weather Effects on Crane Operations, and Rigging Hardware Basics.

Where the ITI Learning Hub becomes exceptionally valuable for just-in-time learning is when the employer creates their own custom content to go alongside ITI’s ready to use content.

Do you have a piece of equipment that only two or three employees really know how to set up properly?

  • Record them the next time they do it, and be set up with a new course on the ITI Learning Hub in a matter of minutes!

Was a new procedure document released last year that no one is following?

  • Upload it to the Learning Hub, add an assessment, and assign it to all relevant employees.

No more digging through dusty old filing cabinets, or cluttered cloud storage to find the document you need! Just-in-time learning is an effective approach which plays a role in any organization’s training and development plans.

Consider the ITI Learning Hub to help your organization provide the training your employees need, right when they need it.
