This instructor-led session is focused on administering the NCCCO Rigger Level I written exam. The exam measures understanding of essential rigging concepts, including equipment inspection, proper rigging techniques, and safe lifting practices required for certification.

The CCO Certified Rigger Level I Written Examination tests the following knowledge areas relating to rigging: Scope of the Rigging Activity, Technical Knowledge, Inspection, and Execution of Rigging Activity.

Exam Format and Scope

  • Inspection criteria for slings, hardware, wire rope, and below-the-hook devices.
  • Proper selection and application of rigging gear such as shackles, hitches, and slings.
  • Load weight estimation, center of gravity identification, and sling tension calculations.
  • Awareness of potential rigging hazards and compliance with safety protocols.

The exam is held in a controlled, proctored environment following NCCCO protocols. Candidates must present valid government-issued ID and adhere to all testing rules. Calculators are not permitted. All necessary written materials will be provided.

The written exam is intended for workers seeking NCCCO Rigger Level I certification. Ideal participants include riggers, millwrights, maintenance staff, and lift support personnel who regularly select, inspect, and use rigging gear in the field.

Exam Logistics

This session is a testing event only. It does not include instruction or review. Candidates are expected to arrive fully prepared. Exams may be conducted at an ITI Training Center or at a qualified customer location.

PPE Information

The following PPE is required for all hands-on sessions at ITI Training Centers:

  • OSHA-approved hard hat*
  • Eye protection*
  • Long pants with no holes or tears
  • Low-heeled work boots or work shoes
  • Full-fingered work gloves*
  • OSHA-approved safety vest*

*ITI Training Centers will make these PPE items available for all enrolled students. Students are responsible for their own appropriate garments and footwear.
