Introductory rigging training that provides a foundation for more advanced rigging activities.

Basic Rigging and Inspection Course is designed to provide participants with a basic level of knowledge of rigging gear inspection, proper rigging procedures, and load control using typical rigging techniques. Classroom interactive, and problem-solving workshops.

Basic Rigging & Inspection is the ideal foundational skill and knowledge building course for those new to cranes, rigging, and load handling.

Course Subjects & Learning Objectives


Rigging Introduction
​The trainee will become familiar with basic rigging terms, rigging gear capacity & and use, and identify load control methods with various sling hitches.

Rigging Inspection
The trainee will be able to recognize and evaluate field-damaged rigging gear samples according to the guidelines established by recognized industry standards.

Rigging Selection
The trainee will be able to select slings and rigging hardware based on the anticipated loading and rigging method.

Load Handling Activities
The trainee will be familiar with recognizing common load handling hazards, blocking practices, crane hand signals, and path of travel; as well as an introduction to completing a standard lift plan.

Equipment Testing
The trainee will be familiar with the testing requirements of rigging gear according to the guidelines established by recognized industry standards.

Rigging Knots

The trainee will be familiar with the basic knots utilized in rigging.

Sling and Hardware Applications

The trainee will be familiar with good rigging practices.

Upon Completion

  • Each student that completes the full 1-day course will receive 0.8 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), as well as a certificate of completion.

    All ITI Training Center Open Enrollment Students will receive the following student materials:

    • Basic Rigging & Inspection Student Workbook
    • Journeyman Rigger's Reference Card
    • Rigging Gear Inspection Reference Card

PPE Information

The following PPE is required for all hands-on sessions at ITI Training Centers:

  • OSHA-approved hard hat*
  • Eye protection*
  • Long pants with no holes or tears
  • Low-heeled work boots or work shoes
  • Full-fingered work gloves*
  • OSHA-approved safety vest*

*ITI Training Centers will make these PPE items available for all enrolled students. Students are responsible for their own appropriate garments and footwear.

Daily Training Schedule

Each participant will receive a Basic Rigging & Inspection Student Workbook, Journeyman Rigger's Reference Card, Rigging Gear Inspection Reference Card.
